Short description

System database

The interactive database tool combines a simple representational sector, which allows to store mainly general and qualitative information on daylighting systems, and an expert's section, which enables users to perform detailed photometric analyses of façade systems.

Usinig the expert mode, some essential functions that are intended to support system designers in the process of designing and selecting appropriate systems:

The systems's raw data (luminance coefficients and directional hemispherical transmission) can be visualized for different directions of light incidence.

The expert mode allows free definition of sky luminance distributions; lighting conditions can be analyzed for façade elements of various orientations and inclinations.

Based om the defined sky luminance distributions, resulting luminous intensity distribution curves can be calculated and visualized for inside surfaces of façades. This feature relies on the recently developed algorithms described in section 4.

For a simple, rectangular space the effects produced by different systems can be evaluated on a working plane with regard to the expected luminance distribution inside a space and the illuminances.

The database is open for compilation of additional BTDF data sets. Further, the database is available to application developers as a COM-based plug-in.
